Clearwater-Pipestone Chain of Lakes Northern Pike Fishing
Northern Pike with a demeanor unmatched are one of the most aggressive and hardest fighting freshwater game fish. Northern Pike are abundant in all of the lakes throughout the Clearwater-Pipestone chain of Lakes. These deeper lakes offer an excellent supply of food and habitat needed to produce trophy northern pike. Large northern require cooler water during the summer months to thrive, under these conditions they may have a lifespan of 30 years, plenty of time to become trophy pike.
Most pike in our lakes average 2 - 5 pounds, although trophy pike in the 40 inch or 20 lb plus class are caught each season. The largest pike most recently, was a 42 inch monster pike caught and released on Clearwater Lake by a guest of Little Moose Lodge. Pike this size are not common; the more typical trophy pike caught from our chain of lakes will be in the 30 inch through 40 inch range.

If you concentrate your efforts fishing for pike in the weedy bays, saddles and points; you can expect to catch 10 to 30 average size pike, with a good possibility of catching a few bigger pike. There are times when you may catch less or a lot more, weather conditions and fishing experience play a big role in your pike angling success. Walleye and bass fisherman will unwillingly catch this many pike in a day: when this waterwolf is not the target fish. It is a fairly common occurrence for a big pike to grab your catch when reeling it in, sometimes they don't let go and you can net both fish.
If you and your fishing party prefer to be the only ones on the lake, we have a boat and motor cached on several lakes surrounding the Clearwater-Pipestone Chain of Lakes. These catch and release portage lakes will require bit of hiking, but the rewards can be some great fishing action with the possibility of a catching that trophy pike of a lifetime!

Pike are not picky; they will eat almost anything presented to them. Because they are quite easy to catch they can become vulnerable to overfishing; even in the northern Canadian lakes. To maintain the fantastic pike fishing in our lakes, there is a protected slot size in Northwest Ontario waters. Any northern pike caught between 27.6 inches and 35.4 inches must be released. Only one pike over 35.4 inches may be kept, although we encourage our guests to release these trophy pike.
Northern Pike in the 2-3 pound range from our cool Canadian Shield Lakes make excellent table fare when properly cleaned with the Y-bones removed. The deboned meat is white, firm, flaky and excellent tasting. Many people prefer a pike shore lunch rather than the traditional walleye lunch. We entertain you to come see for yourself and perhaps catch an Ontario trophy northern pike!
