Ontario Perch Fishing:
Perch Fishing We have excellent perch fishing in all of the lakes that make up the Clearwater-Pipestone Chain of Lakes. Yellow perch are one of the major food sources for walleye, northern pike and muskie and are often caught when jig fishing for walleye. The perch in our cooler lakes taste delicious; their meat is white and firm.
The gluttonous feeding habits of yellow perch make them easy to catch all day long; they are a great fish for beginner anglers who have not yet acquired fishing patience. Often guests come across large schools and can easily catch enough perch for a fish fry; you are allowed to keep 25-50 perch, depending on the type of fishing license you have. Little Moose Lodge guests can expect to catch average size perch around 10 inches, although some will be jumbo perch in the 12-14 inch range.
Yellow perch can be found down deep or in the shallows around weed beds. Our lakes have many weedy bays where good numbers of perch can be found. The best methods to catch them is too anchor or slowly drift along the edges of weed beds; while vertical jigging or bobber fishing with a small piece of worm or minnow attached to a light jig. Adult perch do most of their feeding on or near the bottom. An ultra-light spinning rod and reel with 4-6 lb line is excellent gear to use.
