Ice out on the Clearwater-Pipestone Chain of Lakes normally occurs around May 1st; give or take several days. Once the ice has dropped, Pipestone Lake offers excellent opportunity for shallow watet lake trout fishing along the shoreline; this lasts for several weeks before the lakers head out to deeper water.
May is one of the best times to go after monstrous northern pike, you will find them in the shallow bays where the water warms up first. They have a huge appetite at this time, there is not much forage readily available, and this makes a perfect recipe for some fast action fishing!
Walleye opener is the third Saturday in May each year; so mark your calendar for May 19th. The fishing is excellent, with a lot of quality eater size walleye easily located and caught. Each May there is also trophy walleye around the 30 inch size caught by our guests of Little Moose Lodge.
The weather obviously is not as predictable as the summer months, but it’s worth going because Spring fishing is hard to beat. Bring clothing where you can dress in layers and you will be fine.
For those fisher-persons who want to try some Spring fishing at Little Moose Lodge; we offer you a 20% discount off all plans with a minimum 4 night stay!
This offer is good between May 5th – June 2nd, 2012.
We may end this special at any time so don’t delay.

Picture below is May fishing at Little Moose Lodge on Clearwater Lake. Members of this particular family have been coming every single year to spring fish at our camp since the 1950′s……in fact we named a bay on the lake after them….you will have to become our guest to find out more!
